L&#8217;inter\u00e8s per comprendre&#8217;ls s&#8217;ha incrementat molt a ran dels tsunamis devastadors de l&#8217;Oce\u00e0 \u00cdndic de 2004, amb 228.000 morts, i l&#8217;associat al terratr\u00e8mol de Tohoku de 2011, al Jap\u00f3, amb 18.550 morts. El coneixement sobre tsunamis ha augmentat molt els darrers anys gr\u00e0cies a m\u00faltiples l\u00ednies de recerca que inclouen:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">modelitzaci\u00f3 num\u00e8rica de processos generadors de tsunamis, de la propagaci\u00f3 a mar obert i de la transformaci\u00f3 de quan avan\u00e7a cap a zones m\u00e9s somes;<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">modelitzaci\u00f3 de la inundaci\u00f3<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">estudis de camp dels efectes de grans tsunamis en zones costaneres<\/li>\n<li class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-align: justify;\">estudi dels registres de paleotsunamis&nbsp;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">\n<\/p><p style=\"text-align: justify; line-height: normal; background-image: initial; background-position: initial; background-size: initial; background-repeat: initial; background-attachment: initial; background-origin: initial; background-clip: initial;\">En costes com les de la Pen\u00ednsula Ib\u00e8rica els tsunamis s\u00f3n molt poc freq\u00fcents per\u00f2 poden arribar, en cas de produir-se a magnituds elevades i amb molt de potencial destructiu. El cas de tsunami m\u00e9s devastador experimentat hist\u00f2ricament en aquesta zona \u00e9s l&#8217;associat al gran terratr\u00e8mol de Lisboa de 1755.<span style=\"color:
